Find Truth for God
Joshua Van Oostrom
A human being’s search for truth is one of the most profound stories repeated in the entertainment media today. Usually, these tales end with the protagonist coming to understand a truth about themselves or the world around them. Because truth brought me to my knees and led to my salvation, I am far more interested in THE truth than a truth. I like to get to the bottom of things and the Spirit has granted me the discernment to do it.
I think what differentiates THE truth from a truth is motive. Are we seeking truth to say that we were able to find it? Are we doing it to confirm what we already know? Do we want to be known as truth-tellers or seekers to feel good about ourselves? A truth can be true today and less so tomorrow. It can change drastically even to become the exact opposite of its original intent.
The truth rarely if ever changes. The truth that Jesus Christ died for the sins of this evil world will never change. The truth that God loves and forgives His children will never change. The truth that we were put on this earth to tell everyone about THE two truths above will never change. Do we want to find truth to please and glorify God? If the answer is yes, then consider putting a THE before truth. God’s truth is THE truth. If we truly seek after the will of the Lord, many truths will become obvious. Some will be minor and others extremely vital. And some truths that are not as important in the minds of the saved will be extremely important in another Christian’s life. That is the beauty of our creation and our differences should not be overlooked. Instead, they should be glorified and utilized for the expansion of the Kingdom. Pray for discernment and for a filling of spiritual gifts. Get into the Word and apply it to your life. Do these things so that when you find a truth, you can glorify God and know that it is now THE truth. Words are important, even the smallest of them!
