Wisdom and How to Find It

Wisdom and How to Find It

Joshua Van Oostrom

Wisdom is the most appreciated facet of a person’s character in the Old Testament. Solomon was praised by pagan leaders across distant seas for his wisdom. One even came to visit him to see if it was so. Many think themselves to be wise but do not know the Lord. True wisdom comes from having a relationship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Without this relationship, the correction that comes with wisdom will not last.

Wisdom is rooted in knowing the truth, and through acknowledgement of that truth, we become the wiser. As human beings who sin, our potential growth in this category is limitless. If we know the truth and seek after wisdom daily, our lives will shift dramatically. Living in a state of peace will eventually become permanent and our spirit will take full control. Daily reflection in prayer is vital to develop this gift. Knowing and accepting our failures while accepting God’s free gift of faith can work wonders.

When we humble ourselves before the Lord, while simultaneously surrendering our lives to Him, He will gladly correct us. By giving God his due glory and knowing that He can help us improve, we allow Him to do just that. God loves when we ask for help in a way that is not doubtful. As Spirit-filled servants of the kingdom, we must recognize our authority through the power of prayer and our words in general. We are priests and kings who have the power to heal and shine light on the darkness. God gives these gifts to those He knows will glorify Him and not themselves.

The personal development of wisdom begins with the recognition of all of these things and the desire to do God’s will. As we grow in our relationship with the Lord, so will our wisdom. This is when action is taken, when the knowledge and tools we have acquired become effective weapons in the spiritual battlefield.

So where do we find wisdom?

The short answer is God. The longer answer is, through our relationship with Him and the sharing of our experiences with Him. To be born again, you need to be able to accept constructive criticism. Gaining wisdom is no different. Take your worries and faults to the Lord, and watch them be turned into dancing. Wisdom is cool. Amen.
