The Most Famous Man

The Most Famous Man

Joshua Van Oostrom

I once wanted to be famous. I wanted to create a life for myself that people would remember. A life that my descendants would praise. I thought that if I had the courage, the intelligence, and the work ethic to change the world, I would be unstoppable. I wanted to shatter the glass that surrounds the world‘s problems. I wanted to be the person to fix it all. I thought that if I accomplished this, I would feel better about myself and fame would follow. Fortunately, I didn‘t need to do anything great to feel better about myself and I definitely did not need any attention from this world. I just needed Jesus Christ.

One of the most popular questions asked to children and teenagers is, “If you could meet one person alive or dead, who would it be?” I wonder how many kids these days would answer: Jesus Christ.  I also wonder how many kids would say they‘ve already met Jesus and He is all they need. You see, you don‘t need to travel back in time to meet our Lord, because He is waiting to talk to you every moment of the day.

For so many, they fantasize about what it might be like to meet their favorite singer or celebrity. I don‘t need to imagine because He walks beside me everyday.  How cool is that? You can talk to the Savior of the universe, the most famous man to walk the earth, whenever you like. I don‘t know about you, but that thought absolutely blows my mind.

We have been taught to see famous people as hidden gems or idols. So many obsess over the lives of celebrities, even to the point of becoming stalkers. They strongly desire to catch a live glimpse of these famous idols, let alone have an actual conversation with them. In my past, I fantasized about what I would say to an attractive, rich celebrity if I ever came across one. What a waste of time that was. The most amazing thing about all of this is that Jesus was watching me patiently as I put my faith in everything else but Him. You can‘t find a celebrity these days who will wait 20 years just to be noticed by one pair of eyes, one collection of dust. Yet, Jesus does that for all of us. That is why He is the most famous man to ever exist. His Word is the most sold publication of all time. Many of God‘s works remain unnoticed for years and yet He still moves in our lives and in the world around us. What does that say about who He is? What does that say about how we should strive to live our lives?

Now I live to hear those beautiful words on my judgement day, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” That is the only praise I need. Surrender to the most Famous and you will be awestruck for life.

In the words of Donald J. Trump, “Someone said to me the other day, “You‘re the most famous person in whole world by far.” I said, “No I‘m not.” He said, “Yes you are.” I said, “Nope.” He said, “Who‘s more famous?“ I said, “Jesus Christ.”

Bible verses for you

Luke 6:23

Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in Heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets.

Matthew 8:8-10

The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

2 Samuel 5:12

And David perceived that the Lord had established him king over Israel, and that He had exalted His kingdom for His people Israel’s sake.
